Rifle and Pistol Range

The rifle and pistol range is open daily.  The 100-yard rifle range features six covered shooting benches, while the 25-yard pistol range offers covered shooting positions and a covered waiting area at the 50-yard mark. Shooting at moving targets is prohibited. Only POA Members and their guests may use the Rifle and Pistol Ranges.

Each person will be required to sign an agreement and a release of liability in order to use the gun range. There is a 2 hour and 30 minute time limit on range use. All users are required to bring their own firearms as well as the required ammunition.

Trap and Skeet Range

The trap and skeet range is open Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Highlands Gun Range has three trap fields and two skeet fields with overlay. The complex is staffed by a range master. Members and their Guests are welcome to bring their own guns and ammunition, or they can rent a shotgun and purchase ammunition at the range; targets are provided for a fee through an electronic management system. No outside targets may be used on the Trap and Skeet Range.

Gun Range Rules

  • Those 17 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Those 16 and older pay range fees; 15 and younger shoot for free at the Rifle and Pistol Range.
  • Fee payment receipts are required for access into Rifle & Pistol Range shooting area.
  • Upon entering and leaving the range, firearms will either be holstered, cased, have a chamber flag or have actions open.
  • All users and observers are required to follow all posted rules and Range Master instructions at all times, failure to comply will result in the loss of range privileges.

Gun Range Class Definitions

Basic Pistol Class:

This course is designed with beginners in mind and will teach the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary for responsibly owning and operating a pistol. Participants will learn about gun safety, pistol parts and operation, ammunition types and will lay the foundations for safe and accurate shooting.
The course will include about 8 hours of classroom time and roughly 2 hours of range instruction. The class will be broken into three days, classroom portions will occur during weeknight evening hours with a weekend range time. Training firearms and ammunition will be provided as well as all in-classroom training materials.

The Basic Pistol Class will cost $135 for POA Members and $140 for Non-Members. The classes are limited to 6 participants to maximize individual instruction. For more information call John Urquhart at (479) 855-5067 or to register call Member Services at (479) 855-8000, Option 2.

Regular Concealed Carry Class:

Concealed carry courses are four hours of classroom time followed immediately by a live fire qualification at the pistol range. The course is designed for those who have experience with firearms and focuses on the laws and procedures one needs to know to apply for a concealed carry permit for the state of Arkansas. This course also meets the requirements for persons that need to renew a permit with the state or transfer a permit from another state.
At the end of the course all participants will have all paperwork needed to apply with the state including finger print cards. Participants must bring a handgun and the correct ammunition to class for live fire qualification. All firearms will be checked by the range officer for safety and proper function prior to qualification.

The cost of the course for new permits is $80 for POA Members and $85 for Non-Members. Renewal permits are $40 for Members and $45 for Non-Members. Each course is limited to 20 participants so please sign up early to reserve a spot. Enhanced Concealed Carry Class:

The Arkansas enhanced concealed carry class reintroduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a handgun for personal protection. The class will also address the responsibilities of carrying a handgun in populated and volatile areas. Students will learn how to correctly and responsibly interact with law enforcement and the general public. This course will also teach what to do when confronted with an active shooting situation along with Arkansas Laws pertaining to carrying a concealed handgun under these new stressful and volatile situations. Classes will be broken into two sessions of 3 hours each for knowledge and 2 hour skills training on a live range.
Cost $120.00 per Member    $125.00 per Non-Member     Limited to 10 students
Students will be required to complete the basic Conceal Carry Class prior to taking the Enhanced Class.
Students will be required to bring the following equipment to ensure a safe training and qualification.
  • Their own Handgun
  • Equipment used to carry handgun concealed: holster, purse etc.
  • Eye and Ear protection
  • A minimum of three magazines for the handgun you will be qualifying with
  • Ammunition (minimum of 100 rounds)
