Storage Tips For Bella Vista Boaters

Wed, September 23, 2015 | Lakes and Parks

The weather is changing and it’s time to start preparing your boat and other equipment for winter storage.

Here are a few things to consider.

  • Secure your boat. By using the correct ropes and knots you can assure that your investment stays secure where you want it – at your dock. Throughout the years, the Bella Vista Village Property Owners Association’s Lakes Department has experienced many boats becoming dislodged from their docks and wandering out into the lakes. In the past few months, several boats on Loch Lomond and Lake Windsor have wandered from their slips. The main cause has been weathered ropes and poor tie-downs not being able to withstand the constant wind and wave action. Once the boat floats away, it can be damaged or cause property damage. Also, lake rangers spend numerous hours getting the boat back in its slip.
  • Secure or store water recreation equipment. While patrolling the lakes, the village’s lake rangers pick up a lot of items that have blown or floated away from their homes. Make sure that these items are secure, so you will have them next time you go out on the water.
  • Beware of vandalism. We want everyone to be aware of the vandalism that can occur on occasion at the various lakes. Lakefront property owners and rental slip lessees should:

    • Secure batteries and fuel tanks
    • Remove equipment from boats, including fishing equipment
    • Visit their boat on a regular basis
    • Be aware of what is going on around the boat
    • Report suspicious activity to the Bella Vista Police Department or a lake ranger
    • Make things difficult to find or get
Vandalism on the lakes happens every year. Lake rangers will continue to patrol the area and watch for any suspicious activity on the village’s lakes. If you notice anything out of the ordinary or experience vandalism to your property, call the Bella Vista Police Department at (479) 855-3771 and request that a lake ranger be dispatched.

Remember you are responsible for your property and reporting problems.
