Minutes
from October 20 meeting.
The meeting was called to order at 4 PM by Chair Dave Barfield.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
Tommy Bailey explained that the 2009 budget for Recreation would
be largely devoted to repair and maintenance of existing
facilities. Concrete work and repair of pumps are needed at both
the Kingsdale and Metfield pools and a new slide for the
Kingsdale pool.
This was estimated to cost $130,000. A new sound system for
Riordan Hall was included in the budget at a cost of
$ 23,000. Management was recommending to the Board that $
200,000 be switched from golf to recreation for unspecified
needs. Recreation received approximately 25% of the moneys
allocated for amenities in 2008 and would receive approximately
the same allocation for 2009 ($1.6 mil). Bailey reported that an
open meeting on the budget would be held December 1, 2008.
Members reported on their assigned facilities. Dan Gilman
reported that there needed to be special monitoring of the Lake
Brittany Park because of the trout fishing there in the winter.
Dave Barfield asked that special attention be paid to the
portable toilet at Brittany due to the increased traffic during
the trout fishing season.
In Clem’s usage report he discussed the installation of a
sprinkler system in the Branchwood pool, new lockers in the
women’s locker room and new carpeting.
Also the walking trail at Loch Lomond has been paved as well as
the parking lot. He is planning a children’s Christmas Carnival
on December 13 at Riordan Hall.
Brent Stinespring is the committee’s chair of the ad hoc
subcommittee on trails. Using aerial photos, he presented a
number of possible areas where nature trails could be developed.
Initially he has focused on some locations around Blowing
Springs and nearby places. Brent and Dave Barfield reiterated
that the goal of the trails ad hoc committee is the development
of a trails master plan with a priority list based on cost
effectiveness for submittal to the POA. Brent asked for
volunteer help from the membership to assist in identifying
potential trail sites.
